NTRNZ has been commissioned by Yle to produce a new six-part documentary series exploring Arctic defence and international military cooperation in Northern Europe.
Produced in collaboration with Mighty Finland, the series follows two former peacekeepers whose work has earned them exceptional access to military organizations across Finland, NATO and allied forces.
Through their unique perspective, viewers gain rare insight into the large-scale military exercises and defence operations taking place across the European Arctic. Filmed in Northern Finland, Sweden, and Norway, the series takes audiences into environments rarely documented for television. Combining immersive field reporting with expert insight, it explores how nations prepare, train and cooperate in a rapidly changing security landscape.
“We've spent years building trusted relationships within the defence community. This project allows us to document a world that few people ever get to see firsthand. The scale of international cooperation in the Arctic is remarkable. We're excited to bring audiences closer to it than ever before.”
Ville Sormunen, Mighty Finland
The production offers a uniquely Finnish perspective on one of the most important geopolitical developments of our time: the defence of Europe’s northern frontier.
“This is exactly the kind of access-driven documentary storytelling we love to pursue. The Arctic region is becoming increasingly important geopolitically, yet much of what happens there remains unseen by the wider public. Together with Mighty Finland and Yle, we have an opportunity to tell a story that is both timely and genuinely unique,” says Teemu Hostikka, Executive Producer at NTRNZ.
The series is scheduled to premiere on Yle in 2027.
