Oulu Museum and Science Centre

Brand creation

The Oulu Museum and Science Centre wanted to renew their brand and let go of the previous Luuppi brand. We started the renewal of the brand’s visual identity and communication in early 2023.

The Oulu Museum and Science Centre is the responsible museum for Northern Ostrobothnia. Its visitor attractions include the Oulu Art Museum, the Museum of Northern Ostrobothnia, the Tietomaa Science Centre, the Kierikkikeskus and the Turkansaari Outdoor Museum, as well as the special museums Oulunsalo Local History Museum, the Seaman’s Home Museum, the Pateniemi Sawmill Museum and the Oulu Castle Cellar. In the future, the Museum and Science Centre’s visitor attractions will operate under their own brands, enabling them to communicate their core message more accurately and build a deeper relationship with their target audiences.

The first two to be completed were the new umbrella brand Oulu Museum and Science Centre and the Oulu Art Museum. In close cooperation with the client, NTRNZ designed the new visual identity, tone of voice and key messages. Design Lead Iisakki Ronkainen was responsible for the visuals, and copywriter Hanna Isola for the message design and tone of voice.

Oulu Museum and Science Centre’s visual identity

The colours of the renewed Oulu Museum and Science Centre brand have been kept simple alongside the rest of the graphic identity. This keeps the umbrella brand dignified and neutral, and the vividness is brought out by the images and colours of each destination.

The logo is simple and timeless, with clear lines. This results in a dignified, easily recognisable logo that works in many sizes.

The mark features a person reading a book, the tip of an ink pen, an hourglass resting on its side, the letters O (Oulu), M (Museum) and, when turned upside down, T (“Tiede”, Science).

The new look of the Oulu Art Museum

The colours for the new look of the Oulu Art Museum have been inspired by the visual arts, the museum building and its surroundings.

The new logo is a combination of a mark and a word mark. The logo repeats the arched forms of the Oulu Art Museum. They form a simple and recognisable mark that works in large and small sizes. You can also find the letters O (Oulu), T (“Taide”, Art) and M (Museum).
